How to change your PSN Online ID?

Ready to ditch that embarrassing username from years ago? Sony finally allows users to change their Online ID, giving you a chance to align your digital identity with who you are today.

Important things to know before you change:

First, the first change is completely free. If you change your mind later, subsequent changes will cost a fee (approximately $9.99 USD), although PlayStation Plus members receive a 50% discount.

Second, your old ID is reserved exclusively for you. No one else can take it, and you can revert back to your original ID for free at any time by contacting PlayStation Support.

To Change PSN ID from a web browser:

1. Sign in to your PSN Account management page.
2. Select PSN Profile from the sidebar menu.
3. You should see an Edit button next to your current online ID. Click on this Edit button.
4. Enter your Desired PSN ID in the “Playstation ID” field.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to verify and complete the change.

To Change PSN ID on PS5:

1. Go to the home screen and open Settings (the gear icon).
2. Select Users and Accounts.
3. Click on Account and then select Profile.
4. Select Online ID.
5. Enter your new, available PSN ID.
6. Follow the instructions listed to confirm the change on your PS5.

To Change PSN ID on PS4:

1. Go to Settings from the main menu.
2. Select Account Management > Account Information.
3. Select Profile.
4. Choose Online ID.
5. Enter your new Desired PSN Gamertag.
6. Follow the on-screen prompts to finalize the change.

Potential Risks with Older Games

While most modern PS4 and PS5 games handle ID changes perfectly, some older titles (specifically those released before April 2018) might have issues.
